    The Pope is retiring?

I have seen this in the news, and I am aware that the last pope to step down was in the 15th century, but I confess that I'm a little surprised at all the fuss. If the man feels that he can no longer do the job, then he should be allowed to quietly retire, as in any other job. I'm not a...

Would you let your kids go?

It's a difficult call, but only you know how mature and responsible your daughter is. You will have to trust her soon. Here in the UK kids can get married at 16, though they do need parental consent, and going on a supervised school trip isn't quite as drastic. It would be an adventure, that's...

    Joining a group

It wasn't an online group, we used to meet up in various places, like the local pool club, the bowling club and the pub, and just chat. I did meet a woman, yes, and we are still together some years later. ;)

One Year Old & the Potty

Congratulations! It's always a big thing for parents when the child suddenly gets what you have been trying to teach them. I think it's a triumph for the little ones too, as they always seem so proud of their achievement.:)

    Joining a group

When I was first divorced, my daughters were teenagers and I had forgotten how to meet women! I joined a group for single parents where we met and socialized as a group, taking it further only if we hit it off with anyone. Anyone else done this?

    How to build a snowman

Another point to remember is that some snow is perfect for making snowmen and snowballs, whilst other snow is not. You may find that the snow will not stick together very well. If this is the case, it will take much longer, and I'd wait until another day.

    Alabama hostage situation

I've just seen it on the news. They said that he was a Vietnam veteran, so odds on that he was a little deranged in some way, as a lot of them are after what they went through, but thank goodness the little boy is OK. Seems he killed the school bus driver too.

    Sleeping in the Same Room

Just wait until they are a little older and you will want them in separate rooms! My granddaughters are 4 and 7, have their own rooms at home and sleep fine, but have to share a room when they visit us. They spend all night chattering and giggling!

    Alabama hostage situation

Oh no, what on earth is that all about? Is it someone who knows the child or did he just snatch him or her? We get plenty of World news here but I haven't seen that one. I hope there's a good outcome.

    How to build a snowman

That's a perfect description of how to do it! Don't forget that you'll need a couple of lumps of coal for the eyes, a carrot for the nose and a few small stones for the mouth, plus twigs for arms, a scarf and a hat! You can also put some stone/coal buttons down his front. Have fun!

    When teens rebel

My daughter was exactly the same! She is now a mother herself, has apologized to me and her mother many times for her behavior as a teenager, and is dreading the same happening with her daughter. Hopefully, she will turn out fine.

    Man flu.

I don't know about you, but every time I have a bad cold (like now!) my wife complains that it's man flu and refuses to believe that I feel as bad as I do. She maintains that women are better at handling most illnesses, including colds and 'flu. Do you agree?:p

    Rearing stepchildren isn't as easy!

I suppose it was easier for me in a way, because their biological father wasn't around, plus they hated him anyway, but I know that some fathers are luckier than others when it comes to dealing with stepchildren. There's no instruction manual that I'm aware of!

Not trusting your children will end up making them incompetent adults.

You cannot wrap your kids in cotton wool! They need to be prepared for this world, and there are degrees of danger. I wouldn't allow a 12 year old to use a chainsaw, but surely he could have made a sandwich without a razor sharp knife?

So cold out - the money is going out the window

We have oil fired central heating and it's pretty expensive, but I'm glad we had double glazed windows and doors put in a few years ago. They have really made a difference compared to our old wooden ones.
