My son definitely talked first, but I think most kids do say at least a few words before they're capable of walking. He was saying mama at 5 months old! He didn't walk on his own until just over a year old.

I was lucky that way. My son never really ate anything except food. He did go through a phase when he was two where he would shove stuff up his nose. That was a disgusting stage.

Are you really looking at it as punishment when you do it? Or is that how you see it after the fact? There is a whole different perspective between these two. If you are punishing her on purpose and knowingly while you do it, that's truly sad.

There are plenty of ways for kids to make friends besides at school. Mine will get a lot of that from church, as well as other things. I'm more worried about the friends that I don't want them to make and the things that he will be exposed to in public school.

Usually this is just habit. The child has the habit of letting you entertain him. Sometimes, you just have to let the child cry. Give them some toys or try other things that may distract them, like music, and give them a few minutes to realize that you are not going to pick them up.
