    Flat pack furniture!

Are you any good at putting together flat packs? I'm not and I was really dreading having to make my new computer desk, but I was really impressed by the build and my son and I actually enjoyed putting it together today.

    How to handle a bully.

My son was so angry the other day because a couple of boys in his school were ganging up on him and teasing him. He's quite gentle but can be riled if pushed too far. The trouble is that if he retaliates, it's likely that he will be punished for doing so, yet the school don't stop the bullies...

    Sharing music

My 12 year old son and I are both learning to play guitar together. He is very musical and his granny taught him to play the piano, so he should be better than me, but it's great fun trying to duet when we can only manage a few chords each!:D

    Strange relationships!

It seems strange to some people, but my ex wife and her partner regularly take me with them when they go on excursions. Last week he drove and she sat next to him, whilst my son, his son and myself sat in the back seat. We felt like one big happy family!:D

    It's been a while!

It's been a long time since I've been online but I used to really enjoy posting here so, I'm back! I decided that I'd had too much of the internet so made a conscious decision to leave it alone for a while. I discovered that life is fine in the real world!

    Do you like beer?

I couldn't resist a smile when I saw this advertisement for a personal brewing machine that will give you 23 litres of beer in a week! It's a little expensive to buy and it's sold from New Zealand, but I like the idea!

    Gentle giant

I just have to let you see this photo of a gorilla gently holding a tiny duckling. My eight year old son thought it was wonderful that such a large creature could show such gentleness towards another creature.

The benefits of staying friendly with your ex wife.

Apart from the obvious, that it's better for our son that we are still friends, the other benefit is that she has transport and took us all to visit my parents at the weekend.:D

    Can't afford a car!

At the moment I just cannot afford to buy, tax and insure a car so I have been managing without and it's surprisingly easy! My son walks the short distance to school and back and I shop at my local shop rather than the large supermarket. Maybe I won't ever have one again!

    Pulling his tooth out!

My son has a very wobbly tooth and wants me to pull it out for him but his mother, who lives elsewhere, has asked me not to. I'm very tempted because it's almost out. Would you?

UK Child Benefit to be frozen

Today is the beginning of the new tax year, at least it is here in the UK, and our government have begun a series of cuts including freezing the rate at which child benefit is paid. I don't know why they don't just remove child benefit from the millionaires who don't need it!

    Mother's Day

Today is Mother's Day in the UK. I think it's a different date in the USA. Does every country have a Mother's day I wonder? Personally I think it's too commercialised, a bit like Christmas and Valentine's day.

    Fast food

I know fast food isn't recommended for kids nowadays as it's not very healthy but, every so often I get a terrible urge for a MacDonald's and my son always accompanies me and shares it. Does this make me a bad father?

    I apologise for the starlings!

Take a look at these photographs of one of a group of starlings attacking a pair of native American birds and hijacking their nest. The starlings were brought over from Britain in the 1800s and have become a real pest in the USA.

Do you miss having a garden?

I live in a flat and haven't had a garden in years. I miss having somewhere to potter about and somewhere for my son to get his hands dirty. What about you?

Does bad eyesight run in families?

I'm the only one in my family who doesn't wear spectacles and my 2 year old niece was recently diagnosed with long sightedness. They said it was genetic so surely that means that I should have some problems?

Did you know kids can get cataracts?

This was a surprise to me until I read this article. I wonder how many parents have been in the position of thinking that their child was just too shy or nervous. Who'd suspect cataracts?

    Rage against dangerous drivers!

I just have to vent a little. My son crossed the road correctly using a zebra crossing, intended to ensure that people can safely cross the road, and cars are, by law, required to stop. The stupid driver failed to stop and if my son hadn't managed to jump out of the way I dread to think what...

    My ex has a boyfriend!

I'm pleased for her but as we share our son, I'm not looking forward to hearing stories about what is happening with them. Do you know what I mean?

    Pierced ears

How old would your child have to be before you'd let them have a piercing? My friend's two year old daughter already has her ears pierced and my son would like one of his ears done but he's only nine and I think he's too young.
