How do you Explain?

How do you explain to a ten-year old boy what happened between you and his mom? What do you say when he asks why his mom is not living with you?

You could just say that there are things that you and his mom did not agree on and that both of you decided it would be for the best if you lived separately. Tell him you will explain everything in more detail when he grows older, but in the meantime, let him know how much he is loved.

Yeah, no matter what you tell him make sure it is a version of the truth that can be expanded on later. Like Firstdad said, the priority is for your child know how loved they are.

You could also try telling him that as people grow they want different things and have to take different paths, but that doesn't mean that you and your wife don't love him anymore.
