Kids and the stove

My kids are usually very responsible with the stove, but today we learned our daughter should not be using it. She left it on and caused a small fire. Luckily the pot burned itself up and it went out without any other damage. The house smells funny now, but hopefully a good steam cleaning will fix that.

Wow, how old is your daughter? That is scary! I have done the same thing and so has my wife. It is something that is easy to do when you are doing more than 1 thing at once.

Oh, no! Glad it wasn't a big deal and that nothing/no one was hurt. I have done it too, and even better had something in the oven and then turned it on to pre-heat. We have lost more than one pan this way!

It's a mistake that many of us have made. Probably the most important thing is to learn from it and to get her thinking about what COULD have happened, not to make her feel guilty, just to get her thinking.
