Special Time

I've started special time for each child. I spend time with each child doing what that child wants to do with their special time. Sometimes it's going out to a movie, lunch or just playing outside. It makes each child feel that they are important individually as well as together.

I have always done this. My three are so close in age that it's always been hard to show them that I appreciate and love them as individual people. It's even harder since it's just me. At least now they're old enough where I don't need a sitter for the others when I spend one-on-one time with each of them.

I have done this once a week since my son was old enough to walk. After dinners on Sundays I will ask him what he would like to do. It's always his decision and I hardly ever shoot down his suggestion. He usually decides on ice cream, a movie or a game of Madden football on Playstation 3. Every kid needs this type of "special time" with at least one of the parents.
