I wonder if the person who wins, well if they end up not doing what the say and it gets worse job wise for people. How many are going to give up working and just live off the system that is slowly failing? It seems like its already becoming a popular trend. I also find it funny that while I am posting this I see an ad to the right for NObama.

I wonder how high the unemployment numbers really are. People who have given up looking for work aren't counted in the statistics. And some people were never eligible to begin with for unemployment compensation so they were never included in the numbers. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that the real unemployment rate was several points higher than the official count.

I believe the current "real" unemployment rates are around 15% which should really be a wake-up call to Americans since Greece is broke and theirs is only about 20%. We have gone so far down the rabbit hole that it will not matter who is elected or what their policies are...it's done and there is no coming back from this level of debt.

The economy and the job market have definitely picked up compared to a year ago. I have friends and family all over the U.S. who are saying that things have improved for them.

Yet my company is laying off 1000 people this month. The first layoff since 2002.

I think the economy is improving, but there is a long road ahead to get back to where we were. I really worry for my children. I mean a college degree now is worth about nothing, I can not imagine how bad it will be when they get older.

Since I have yet to have seen an elected official do what they said, I think it's a safe bet to say whoever wins won't do what they said they will either. As for the job market, I think more people are starting to go into business for themselves. I think that is what is helping the economy more than the big businesses are.

I don't see much evidence of any kind of recovery around here, and England announced this week that they are in a second recession. I imagine the US will be right behind them. The election won't change anything as Christian said we have gone too far to turn back now.

This is the time for Americans to revolt. We have too many nice things to revolt like the Yugoslavians did or the Africans but we need t revolt...and the way to do that is to elect someone outside of this two-party ********.

I keep maintaining that we need to tax the wealthy more. The tax rate for millionaires and such is at the same level it was right before the great depression. Seems to me like that's a bit of real life foreshadowing? I'm going to vote democrat. Not because I don't think they're corrupt, I do, but because historically republican presidents excel at ending wars (shocking, I know) and democratic presidents are more productive during times of economic strife. So... I guess I'm a second termer.

I don't really think it is a matter of taxing the rich more per se, but of actually making sure they are paying their fair share of taxes. What I mean by that is someone who makes $30,000 per year usually ends up paying in more than someone who makes $500,000 or more because of all the loopholes and such for the wealthy.

I am a second termer myself, because I do see progress. My sister's company is actually hiring more workers. I think that are economy is changing though. The jobs that were in abundance before aren't anymore. Different areas are opening up though.

I agree with you on both counts. Four years really isn't long enough to get us out of the mess from before. People also underestimate how much power the president actually has. It's Congress that needs to be overwhelmingly Democrat also.

I agree. Congress needs a major overhaul and a slash in benefits. Career politicians have rin this country into the ground taking bribes and swaying votes so that their special interest groups will keep paying.

The entire government needs an overhaul; why are we forced to pick between the "best" from these two specific parties instead of the best man or woman for the job? The primary elections are absurd and they are a good way to weed out the best Republican or Democrat but not the best person to hold office.

Yes, BigPapa, that's what I meant. Sorry for the confusion. They do need to pay their fair share. It's disgusting when I find out that the average school custodian pays more in taxes than the average millionaire. That's not percentage-wise, either, it's in actual amounts.
I will say this about Obama though. He didn't do nearly enough but there are more jobs now than there were when he took office. The unemployment rate is down two percent, I think.

Well inspite of all you guys voting for Obama, I personally hope that the University of Colorado mode,l that has correctly predicted the last eight Presidential elections is right again, and that Romney wins. Here is a story about it if you want to read more.

You must be referring to the SSI system that I have been putting my hard-earned money into since 1974. Now I am not supposed to be able to live off of it when I am too old to work? Yes, it is failing, but it sounds like you are suggesting that 80 year old people should give up their "Socialist" check and get back to work.

No matter who is elected, the economy is likely to get worse before it gets better. I think we're on the verge of the higher education bubble bursting.
