I've got a friend who has a 7 year old son who's starting to go though this U.F.O. phase. Believing in them, reading about them, etc... How would you guys handle this?

I don't see anything wrong with it. I do see it as an opportunity to encourage reading and discovery. Maybe buy some books on space exploration. If you are worried about the believing part, maybe find a book that focuses on explaning some of the most frequent misconceptions.

I think it's a healthy part of growing up. He's discovering things, wanting to learn. I would let it run it's course. Who knows, maybe he'll be an astronaut when it's all said and done.

He'll go through several more phases before childhood is over. Don't you remember reading every Marvel comic book and thinking how wonderful it would be if the heros were real?? I do. I loved the Metal Men and I wanted to be one of them and save people. I guess I did grow up and save people but I'm an EMT instead of one of the Metal Men.
