UK Child Benefit to be frozen

Today is the beginning of the new tax year, at least it is here in the UK, and our government have begun a series of cuts including freezing the rate at which child benefit is paid. I don't know why they don't just remove child benefit from the millionaires who don't need it!

That doesn't sound good. Are they scrapping it all together or just not planning to increase it with inflation? Who gets this money? I don't really know what it is meant to be for, so more information would be cool.

This is a payment made by the government to one parent for each child they have. Its a larger amount for the first child. It isn't means tested so every parent from the poorest to the wealthiest receives it until the child reaches a certain age. It used to increase every year but it's now been frozen at the current rate and I have just learned that the government are going to stop it altogether for people who earn above a certain amount. Quite right!
