How often do your work commitments and commitments to your kids collide? Do you go to the sport event/school function/etc.. over work or do you balance them some how?
The two commitments will collide at some point in time but what is important is to put family first. I have in the past managed to skip some events just because I had to be with my family. The onus rests on an individual's shoulders.
I use to place work first before the family and kids. I do not do that anymore due to the fact it almost cost me my marriage. If it is a work event that I can not miss, they understand, but most the time family events beat out work events!
You always have to balance family and work. Your work won't go away and you can do overtime to finish it. But some moments with your children can't wait for your free time.
