Since we split I haven't paid my ex any alimony. She has a decent job and we earn around the same amount. In terms of the children's expenses we also manage to balance it out. Are we unusual, do you think? I hear of men who are having to pay for all major expenses such as clothing and school costs, regardless of their ex-partner's income.

I've known some fathers who where below poverty level after paying the majority of their income to their spouse who lived a much better life. One person I knew had to move in with his parents, while the ex married someone who could afford a 6,000 square foot house, new vehicles, take vacations like crazy. I think she was a lawyer though and knew all sorts of tricks.
