In a very loose sense of the word, I am the boss in my house. I say "loose" because I can make rules, and my wife does not hesitate to break them. I am somewhat easy-going as far as the household goes, so she knows she can do pretty much whatever she wants. Only when I am very serious about a matter do I ever "put my foot down" - and that rarely ever happens.
In my family, we have a very easy system for defining whose the boss. Whoever is doing the paying is the boss. So if, say, the wife sponsors an outing, then she gets to be commander-in-chief, so to say.
