Texas judge removes children from home over homeschooling

Wow! That's about as backwards as it gets. I can't believe our cultural norms have changed so much that a mom staying home with her kids has gone from completely normal and expected to being so looked down upon.

    Re-freezing chicken?

My wife talked to her mom about it and she said the same thing -- don't do it. We are going to use 2 or 3 of the breasts for stovetop barbecue chicken and she has a couple of other recipes picked out for the rest of it. Something about chicken salad or chicken spaghetti; I can't remember!

    Re-freezing chicken?

My wife bought a family pack of boneless, skinless chicken breasts and since we didn't need them the day she bought them, she froze the whole pack. Now we're getting ready to cook some of the chicken, but we don't need to cook all of it. If we defrost the whole pack, can we refreeze the breasts...

    Kitten for my daughters

Congrats on the decision, DeputyDad. :) I am a cat-lover myself, although the wife is all about dogs. We are debating the same decision ourselves since we have moved into a new place.

    No Internet at New Place

Well, we finally got internet, but it was with little thanks to Comcast! They came out and did an "outside reconnect" but failed to tell us that they hooked up the bedroom instead of the living room. When we finally got our self-install kit, we fought with hooking everything up in the living...

    No Internet at New Place

We just moved across town for a great deal on a 1-year lease. All in all, everything went over pretty smooth -- no issues having utilities cut on, no issues having minor repairs at the apartment taken care of quickly, and lots of help from friends and family getting everything moved over. The...

    Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime

We cut our cable off years ago, Jason, and I don't regret it a bit! It saves us a lot of money every month, even after taking into account the yearly $80 for Prime and the monthly $8 for Netflix.

    Handyman

I can do some handyman stuff, like painting and pressure washing, but like Jason, I leave heating and air, plumbing, and electrical stuff to the pros. I'd rather be safe than sorry in those areas and I'm willing to pay to have someone who really knows what they're doing fixing things.

    How was your Christmas?

I'm sorry to hear this, SingleDadNow. I can only imagine how you must be feeling without the kids there with you. My brother is a divorced father of three and I know the holidays are hard for him, too. They'd be a lot easier if his ex-wife would work with him, so I hope your ex is more amicable...

How old to stay home alone?

Yeah, I'd say that waiting until 18 is a bit over-protective, and it's not doing your child any favors, either. I'm of the mind that leaving them alone, for at least short periods of time, does them well because it instills confidence in them that they can handle basic, everyday situations...

How old to stay home alone?

Well, I think it boils down to maturity level. I was never left home alone growing up because I had 3 older siblings, but my wife on the other hand, started spending summers alone after fourth grade when she was still 9 years old like your son. If he is mature, understands that he can't open the...

    Denture Reline

Well, I was fitted with the dentures the day my last teeth came out, so the dentures were literally fitted over swollen gums. (This helps with healing, clotting, etc.) Once the gums healed completely and shrank, the dentures became looser.

    Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime

I think we are going to keep the Prime, since it also gives you access to the free two-day shipping and the Kindle Owners' Lending Library. Plus, it's nice that Amazon Instant gives you access to some Prime stuff for free PLUS other stuff that you can pay to rent or buy if you want to.

    Denture Reline

Do any members here wear dentures? I have been wearing them for a few months now and I think it's time for a reline. They fit really well at first but now they feel "too big" and even the adhesives aren't that much help anymore. How much improvement can I expect to see from a reline? Anyone?

    Adult Acne

She's on the hormonal one -- the one that you have to replace every five years. Come to think of it, I don't remember her having all these problems before she had it put in. Maybe she's one of those that doesn't react well to those hormones. She did have some bad breakouts during her pregnancy...
