If They Can Why Can't I?!

My son knows the value of money I'm glad to say. He knows that I can't afford to get him all the latest gear and he knows that if he wants something badly enough, he has to save for it. Hopefully it will stand him in good stead later in life!

    arsenic limits?

Well, it never fails to amaze me to see what our rulers allow. I bet they don't drink any of this stuff themselves. How can ANY arsenic be safe? The fact that it's an ingredient in pesticide means that it's a killer!

    Shoving

It may be something that she has seen on TV, or one of her friends may have done this to her. With my son, a conversation about the reasons why we do what we do, and why we shouldn't do some things, was enough to point him away from such unsocial behavior so hopefully, that will work for you too.

    Sharing music

Well, I started first and hadn't expected him to join in because, although he is artistic and musical, he'd never expressed any interest in the guitar before. When he asked if he could have a go, and liked it, I bought him his own. Your kids may well love it if they give it a go.

    Flat pack furniture!

Are you any good at putting together flat packs? I'm not and I was really dreading having to make my new computer desk, but I was really impressed by the build and my son and I actually enjoyed putting it together today.

    Old Friend Found

My mum found an old friend through the website "friendsreunited" and she just sent her a message saying basically, "Remember me?" Her friend responded and although they now live thousands of miles apart, they talk on Skype and email each other all the time.

    Anyone paying attention to Egypt?

Who knows what is really happening there? I don't think anyone in the world is happy with their government, especially during this time of global recession, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a few more overthrown.

Two weeks after the end of school and already bored?

Our kids don't start their Summer break until the end of July but we get the same complaints about boredom. We have to provide endless days out, games, BBQs and the like otherwise they mope. If I had a garden I'd get my son to work on it and that would keep him busy!

    How to handle a bully.

He's 12 and has a best friend who is also a girl. I think that's the problem. He is very protective of her and when he rushes to her aid when she is being teased, they turn on him. As you say, as long as it doesn't get physical, it's probably something that he must learn to deal with.

    How to handle a bully.

My son was so angry the other day because a couple of boys in his school were ganging up on him and teasing him. He's quite gentle but can be riled if pushed too far. The trouble is that if he retaliates, it's likely that he will be punished for doing so, yet the school don't stop the bullies...

    Watching Her Struggle

When mine had morning sickness she felt better if she ate a slice of dry toast. I don't know if that would work for everyone but it may be worth a try. I know how bad it can make them feel.

Huge barbecue planned for the 4th

I hope the weather is good as your barbecue sounds like it'll be an epic one! I'm in the UK so we don't celebrate July 4th of course, plus it's not really barbecue weather where I am. :(

How to handle a drug situation?

Educate yourself and her about cannabis. It's not so bad. The thing you must find out, is where she is getting it from and you must ensure that she is buying from a reputable source. There are bad people out there selling bad stuff but, if she knows what to look for, she will be fine.

How to Check Calories in Food?

I used to have a book that listed a whole load of different food stuffs and the amount of fat, carbohydrates, protein and calories in each. I'm sure if you Google it you can find it. It definitely exists, so I hope you find it.

    Sharing music

My 12 year old son and I are both learning to play guitar together. He is very musical and his granny taught him to play the piano, so he should be better than me, but it's great fun trying to duet when we can only manage a few chords each!:D

    Washed my card

Oops! When I carried plastic, I was forever losing it so, now, I deal strictly in cash only. It's a little difficult when big companies expect me to pay with a card, but hey, hard cash is still legal tender right?

    Leg cramps

I love Dill pickles and bananas and eat them almost every day, though not at the same time! Maybe that's what stops me getting cramps because I don't drink tonic water like my mum.

    Leg cramps

My mum used to suffer from this until she started drinking tonic water. Apparently the quinine in this is good for cramps and she says that it's much improved. I think she adds a little vodka to the tonic, so this may also help.:p

    Strange relationships!

It seems strange to some people, but my ex wife and her partner regularly take me with them when they go on excursions. Last week he drove and she sat next to him, whilst my son, his son and myself sat in the back seat. We felt like one big happy family!:D

    Weird dreams!

My ex is always telling me about her crazy dreams, but she is a believer of all things weird and thinks her flat is haunted. I'm quite spiritual and like to think that dreams mean something but, she goes overboard!
