    Scotty McCreery fans?

I heard on the radio today that Scotty McCreery of "American Idol" fame has just passed the millionth sale of his first CD. Are there any Scotty fans here? My daughter idolizes him. First, he's a country boy. Second, he's from our state. Third, we know people who know him well. She thinks she'll...

    Your children's opinions

It's nice if kids take ownership of their new brother or sister, but what if the child says,"No way?" Then what do you do? It's good to let them thinking they're sharing in the decision making, but do you actually take their vote into consideration? I would not.

    Active Grandparents?

My parents are more active than I am. Both work, yet they have managed to keep my children at their house every weekend since the kids were born. Our kids wouldn't get to go on vacations and to the beach if it were not for my parents.

    Wife Taller?

I never gave it a second thought, but she's just about an inch shorter than I am. When she puts on those heels, she can see the top of my head.

    Venison in chili?

We pulled out some chili we made last year with venison and had it for supper. It was so good on the cold, rainy night we were having. Does anyone here have any secrets to making great venison chili?

    Any Thoughts on Bad Habbits?

When I'm in a good mood, I sit them down and ask them to think through the consequences of what happens if they does not develop the positive that comes out of the alternative. If I'm in a bad mood, I just firmly them to stop it.

spending $ you do not have

That piece of plastic has gotten me into trouble at least a time or two. My wife thinks if it's on sale, then it's a good buy. The Everything's a Dollar store has almost bankrupted me. We don't need that cheap stuff that breaks a week later. I could go off on this one big time.

    Favorite child?

I sometimes question, but I don't say it, whether my wife favors one child over the other. It's obvious that she rides one hard and the other not so much. She does buy more for one than the other. She does argue less at one than the other. I see it in her, so I ask myself is it in me as well?

    Going Back to School

There's a lot of government money out there these days, unless it's run out already. I'd check into it. The community college and local college offer free or discounted classes to senior citizens, too. I wish I qualified. Well, no, I don't. Not yet. I need to make it through my middle years.

    diets

My uncle works with me and he is on this milkshake diet that has worked well for him. He got off of it over December, but he started this week back on the milk shakes. I'm considering giving it a try.

    Step grandparent

My mother had a father we saw little of as I was growing up. He had a wife we detested who had children we never met. My mother's mother was married to a man for about a year. Then they divorced and we never saw him again. He had grown children and has long since died. So -- in essence, my...

    Done with the grease

I have horrible acid reflux. Being on the road a lot with my job, I eat lots of meals out. You know what that means. Fast food is not very healthy, and I love ribs, pizza and all the bad stuff. They say the older you get, the worse it is. I'm really not looking forward to finding out.

    January bills

The bills are coming in. We spent more than we meant to spend prior to Christmas. It looks like I'm going to be looking for a way to earn some extra money to dig out of this mess. During the summer, I cut grass. Help me brainstorm, peeps! How are you filling in the gaps?

    Bows and arrows

My son received a set of bows and arrows for Christmas along with one of those huge targets that look like a square foot cushion. He's been practicing all week and is getting better than I am.

    Jalapeno Poppers

We grow our own peppers, and you can't get them hot enough for me. My son is the same way. He's going to love these once summer gets here. Thanks for the recipe. Peppers are high on our list of priorities.

    Parmesan rolls

I tried this recipe last night with some leftover Parmesan cheese we had from last week's pizzas. It was a great hit with my kids. It goes without saying that I loved it because bread is my weakness.

    Feeling Trapped?

Going to the same job every day really can get to you. I have to go out of town for most of the week. The boss won't pay us to have separate hotel rooms, so I have to sleep with the people I work with, too. I'm on the road a lot and don't get to see the kids until Friday. At least I have...

    Kids and cell phones

How young is too young for a kid to have his own cell phone? We got a great plan that allowed us to give our children cell phones for Christmas, but we wonder how often we will let them carry them around. We want them for safety, but we don't want to give them free reign. We are now making cell...

How many hours do you spend on cleaning?

I clean all the time, but the work never gets done. We strew things all over the house, the yard, the car and anywhere else that has bare space. I think we simply have too much stuff.

Best dog to get for the kids

By all means, get a Lab. We have had a dalmation and a number of other dogs. The dalmation breed is just too high-strung. The best pet by far for our kids has been our Labrador retriever.
