Blood work

Do you get blood work done at your annual check up? If so, what are they testing for? I hate to admit it, but I haven't been for a check up in a few years and I'm not sure what I should be asking for when I go.

I am supposed to but I hate needles. I just put it on my desk and forget about it until my wife finds it and makes me get it done. I know that sounds childish but I REALLY hate needles.
