How long were you trying to get your first kid? Me and wife couldn't get "it" to work year and a half but in the end everything turned out fine, thank God!
We had to try a few times (and what a fun time we had trying!) but we were lucky and didn't have any true problems conceiving. I'd say less than six months from when my wife stopped taking birth control pills, we knew she was pregnant.
No one disputes that it's wasn't fun with us as well. If memory serves me correctly it was 6-8 months for us. Long if you ask me, but some people are not even this lucky, I hear.
