If You Are Not Living With Them

If you're divorced and not living with your child(ren), do you find it difficult to enforce rules? Doing chores for example. How do you respond to a child who, when you tell to clean their room, tells you "Well you don't live here, why do you care?"

Help please.

I think you need to stress the importance of what it means to be responsible for the things that are the children's (their toys, the room they keep, etc.). Even if you are not the main parent you are still a parent trying to teach your kids something.

That's a good idea Andersson. My mind is always on her education and that's what I try to instill in her. The importance of that. Maybe I should switch gears a bit. Summer break is only a month away after all.

It might be harder in that case, but I think you still need to provide structure. While they may not enjoy it, they will thank you in the long run.
