Wants To Spend Thanksgiving With Me

I just found out that my 4-year-old son wants to spend Thanksgiving day with me. He doesn't want to go to his mom's family's. I don't think there's anything wrong. We're just close and I think he sees Thanksgiving as a day to be with me. I feel like I should encourage him to go with his mom and then with me like we've planned, but I'd love to spend the day with him, especially since we wouldn't have to be at my parent's until late afternoon. Does anyone have any thoughts about this?

Wow, that's a tough one. What's your ex-wife say about it? Do your ex-wife's parents get to see your son on other occasions? Then there's the issue of what you want to teach him about getting together with family on the holidays. Letting him opt out of going with his mom might send the message that family isn't that important. I think I'd pick another day and spend it with him.
