Are you ready for some football? How about an entire day of football? If you’re a guy who loves the game, you’re probably going to watch at least two NFL games on Sunday, and possibly all three games, which means you will be watching football from 1 p.m. until about midnight. If you add the pre-game show, this means you will be watching football from noon to about midnight. Insane? Absolutely not. Why not do what you love? Especially after a long week. But is your wife going to be happy about it?
There are a few ways to make sure you can get away with watching football all day on Sunday. The first step is to go out to dinner with your wife and/or kids on Friday night. On Saturday morning, try to do some house work or landscaping. This will show you put your work in for the weekend. On Saturday afternoon, take the family somewhere. It could be an amusement park or the movies. Just make sure it’s something everyone will enjoy. By taking this approach, you will be able to enjoy the game on Sunday without worry. You already took everyone to dinner, you worked on the house, and you took everyone on a family trip. You deserve a day of relaxation. But what if your wife still gives you a hard time?
Don’t worry. There is a way around this. If this happens, your objective is to get your wife to like football. There a few approaches you can take here. The first approach is to set up a pool between you and her or for the entire family. If it’s just you and her, it’s recommended that you use the betting lines to make it more challenging. If kids are involved, everyone can pick the games straight up – you don’t want your kids laying down $10 bets at school and ending up $300 in the hole by Christmas. Regardless of which way you run the pool, it’s going to add a lot of excitement to the games. And your wager with your wife doesn’t have to be money. The reward should be something a little more fun. Yes, it can be sex-related. It can also be something in regards to what one of you always wanted but the other wouldn’t agree to. For example, if she has always wanted a fence around the backyard but you haven’t agreed, she can play for that. And if you have always wanted to set up your own gym in the garage and she said no, that can be your prize. Since rewards like these are major household changes, you will both be rooting hard for your teams. Most importantly, she will enjoy football, which will make your life a whole lot better – even if it ends up costing you a backyard fence.
Another good way to get your wife interested in football is to make every Sunday a major event. This doesn’t necessarily mean you have to invite company. It means that you can prepare a nice lunch together and bake something for the first halftime. This will allow you to spend time in the kitchen together while the pre-game show is on. When the games begin, you can reward yourself with a beer.
If neither of the above options sound like realistic possibilities for you, there is still hope. Most wives love when their husbands want to spend time with them. Spending time doesn’t have to be something extravagant. You can actually make it so you’re watching football and spending time with your wife at the same time. A great way to do this is to play Scrabble while the game is on. Works every time. And as you’re playing, you can casually talk about the game and the players. If this becomes a weekly event, she will eventually find interest in what’s going on with the game, especially if it’s a hometown team.
Other potential opportunities to get your wife interested in football: tailgating, making Sunday games family events with other families, getting her on a fantasy football team in your league.
