    Can't find work

It is bleak, I know. I'm not sure of your partner is in part time work now, or was let go from that job, either way it is hard to adjust to a drop in income. I hope you can find a way to give the kids a decent holiday.

    Bug going around?

Hope you get over it soon, it's no fun being that sick. I haven't heard of anything much doing the rounds but it could be local to you. Are your kids okay?

    Pregnancy scare

Just got the news that my wife's pregnancy scare was exactly that. Neither of us really want to expand the family and we've started talking about making this a permanent decision. Any guys been through the op? How did you decide who should be the one to have it?

    Classic DVDs

Great tips, thanks. I have an old VHS player lying around somewhere, which I'd forgotten about. Ebay is something I've never used but will check out.

    Talking behind my back

The guys above have given you great advice. The only thing I have to add is that you could tackle the source of this information. Someone is telling you about it - maybe better to ask them not to pass on anymore information.

    Classic DVDs

I'm busy scouring yard sales and Internet auction sites for Disney (and other) classic DVDs. I wish I had the skill to capture a child's imagination and attention the way these movies do!

    we have a runner

He sounds smart, maybe a little bored? Does he run away or just like the excitement of the initial escape? Maybe he'd enjoy dog agility classes and competitions?

How do you pass the time?

If you're not used to free time, especially when there is nobody to share it with, it can be hard to adjust. I like to have a few things lined up that I can join in with as and when I'm free. Some friends play chess a couple of times a week and I can always drop by for a game.

    Sex Changes

Live and let live is my opinion on the subject. Then again I am on the older end of the age scale too, maybe we get more tolerant as we age?

    Snowed in?

Anyone here living through the freaky snow storms I keep hearing about? I'm not a fan of the cold and couldn't imagine living somewhere with lots of snow.

    Broken toe!

Seems my little accident is not such an unusual thing to do, I still feel stupid though. I am lucky that the weather allows me to avoid shoes, but I miss driving.

    $1 Microwavable Dinners

They sound like a good deal for emergency cooking needs! You could always add some vegetables to balance up the nutrition aspect of the meal. Not sure how you'd fare after a month of them though!

    Snack Cabinet

I like the idea but as yet it wouldn't work in my house! Then again I'm not the best role model for self restraint! How early did you guys introduce this?

    Broken toe!

Can you believe I broke my toe? I wasn't even doing anything exciting, just stubbed it on something in the yard, and that was that. Still, it could be worse. At least I can still type!

    Kids' clubs hotels

Has anyone here ever made use of this kind of service? We've been looking at some all inclusive resorts in other countries and most have a kids program, but I'm not sure how safe they are.

The Duggars (19 Kids and Counting)

I have mixed feelings about this show. On the one hand I do think the kids seem polite, centered and happy. On the other surely they are going to find it hard to mix well and find future partners. They seem to be very insular and the kids don't even go to school.

What line of work would you recommend?

If a young person has an interest in tourism or the leisure/service industry I'd recommend they go for it. It strikes me that despite the global economical downturn there are always opportunities in that field.

    Stuck at work!

This sounds a bit unreasonable. The economy may be weak but that's no excuse to treat people badly, and unpaid overtime with no choice or notice is not good. Could you negotiate something else as compensation? Maybe more vacation or a day off at another point?

    Volunteer work for the family?

I would like to get involved in some kind of community giving or volunteer work. If there's something we could do as a family that would be even better. Any ideas?

    Feeling the pinch?

Mel, I think we're quite lucky right now, because the house is paid for and we have no major debts or anything. I feel for those who are struggling, and wish I could do more to help them.
