Children being religious

I have a friend whose 11-year-old son seems to be particularly drawn towards religion. The parents are Christians (they believe in God and are baptized), but they are not really religious, as in attending church every Sunday, going to confessions etc. However, the child is fascinated with religion and they are thinking of placing him in a parochial school.

Do you think this is normal ?

I think it is good if they are letting him make choices for himself about his own beliefs. No child should be forced to believe anything. I don't think parochial schools are beneficial to children so I would never suggest that route though.
