Fifty Shades of Grey

I've heard that this book (and two others) by E.L. James are making waves worldwide. It's very popular that a movie will soon be made about it. I haven't read the book, nor does my wife who is the book lover. But I might watch the movie when it comes out.

My wife read the trilogy and she says the books are terrible. She even got bored of the sex scenes because they were so numerous (I find this hard to imagine :)).

My wife and her friends read all 3 books too. They loved them! I did not read them. My mother asked my wife if she could borrow them. Thankfully my wife read them on her Kindle.

Ha ha polamalu43 - It had to be awkward having your mom ask your wife for steamy novels!! I don't know if my mom has read them or not (nor do I EVER want to know) but I do know that my wife has NOT read them. She has read a couple of articles about the novels, however she said she wouldn't read the novels themselves until the prices came down on them. As for me, I'm not much of a reader, so I don't ever see myself reading them. I might watch the movie if/when it comes out, though. ;)

I keep hearing about it but I do not know much about it. I guess I need to get going with the newer times even when it seems like there are too darn many things to catch up on.

Andersson - has your wife mentioned them? I really hope my mom does not read them. I did read something saying that women in their 60s love these books. From what my wife told me the movies would have to be rated X.

I asked my wife how they could possibly do a movie and she says there is a bit of a plot that could be made into an interesting movie but she has no idea how they'd do the sex scenes and keep it from being X-rated.

I hadn't heard of these books until it was mentioned on the radio. Apparently Selena Gomez was approached to do the lead female role and turned it down citing that she wasn't ready to get that adult just yet. I am glad that my wife hasn't mentioned them.

I have just come across this trilogy a bit earlier today when I was browsing the news online. Then I downloaded it. Haven't gotten round to reading them yet. Actually I don't really expect them to be in the same style as Harold Robbins novels. Still it would be good to see what made them sell so many million copies.

My wife didn't buy them but she read some of the excerpts on Amazon and showed them to me. Basically, they are soft core porn with a tiny bit of plot. The way women fell all over themselves for these I am going to have to wager a guess that their sex lives are not very interesting. Between that and the Magic Mike movies perhaps men need to take a little more notice of what their wives are "in to".

I bet they can do a movie without a problem. My wife said there is a great storyline - it's not all about sex! Ha! I saw that they were talking about casting for the movie already!

They way they talked about it on the radio today it sounded like a self help book. After reading this thread, I guess it is not. Otherwise I really have never heard of the book. Did not even know what Magic Mike was until Monday. I guess I just do not keep up with the entertainment side of things.

My wife bought the first one and said it was okay, but the writing was terrible. She's working on her own romance book, so she was quite critical of it.

Maybe the books did strike a chord that we never knew existed. Maybe in between the women who lust after hot sex and the women who are more frigid than the fish in the freezer, there might just be a big number who are interested in average sex.

What is so special about this book that people are talking so much about it? When I googled it just now, it seems that while some people think it's the "best" erotic book today, there are also others who believe the author exaggerated much, especially in the sex scenes. Others still have not-so nice things to say about the author's writing. If I were E.L. James (the author), though, I wouldn't care what anybody thinks, the book (and the other two books in the trilogy) are selling like hotcakes worldwide.

I'm the last to know about everything.
This is the first time I'm hearing about this book.
I can't wait until I get a Kindle. Then I can read all of these books.

Honestly my wife and I were already into that type of stuff. And seeing as how she'd rather act it out with me than read a book.. I'm not complaining.

I have personally not read any excerpts of the three books but I don't have to read them. I work with a lot of women who have read them and love to talk about them. I have heard so much about the books, including some unsolicited details, that I am tires of hearing about them. As Bear says they sound like soft core porn to me and belong in the appropriate store. I cringe every time I hear a teenage girl talking about reading them. As a father I worry what kind of message the books are sending.

This has been dubbed as porno for women and it absolutely makes sense. Men are visual and want to see some hotties getting railed. Women want the sensuality and the thoughts about it, but without seeing it so they can imagine what it would be like.

I can't concentrate on a book that talks about sex most of the time. I have never read it, but from the reviews I hear from my friends, it's basically like that.
