Haunted Houses and age

My kids are begging me to take them to a haunted house. I don't like them myself, but the bigger question is how old should a kid be before you take them to a haunted house?

I took my son when he was 12 and he loved it. I think you can really freak a kid out for life if you take them too soon.

I think it depends on the personalities of your kids. If the kids are able to watch scary movies without having nightmares, they could probably handle a haunted house. If they are jumpy and get freaked out easily, they aren't ready.
