Are they really family pets when one person gets stuck with taking care of them doing the not so fun chores? I am wondering what might be a good pet for the youngest and when exactly? Is there a pet friendly age?

You seem a little agitated. Are you in this situation? No one else will help you with the pet? I guess it's still a family pet if they all care for it and acknowledge it, even though they don't help out. Kids love dogs I know, so any age for that pet, though they probably won't be helping out with the chores of taking care of it.

This is why we are going to wait a bit longer to have any pets. Right now it just would not be possible but mentally and physically, since we already run around like chickens with our heads cut off. The adults I mean, the kids are fine.

It is a family pet for us. The kids wanted a dog but they do not always have the inclination to do the chores that goes with taking care of it. They only want it to play with or take it out.
