I want a beagle and the spouse does not. For me it would be a great inside pet and with the nasty summers we have had the past few years I want all pets inside only. She does not want one and said its because she does not want to see Snoopy die.
I have been there. We had a few years where we did not own a pet because my wife was so upset over the loss of our previous dog. I did not pressure her to get a pet. Eventually she came around and we got a pet.
People can become very attached to their pets and as death is inevitable and come earlier for the animals, it could cause be a big emotional upheaval. I can understand your wife's reluctance to get a pet.
