Son Talking Back

Recently my son has been talking back to me or making smart answers when we have our "discussions." He's eight years old now. This talking back started quite recently. I don't know how to deal with it. Getting angry and yelling doesn't solve anything and neither does spanking. Any advice?

It seems as though he is challenging your authority. Maybe you can have a "discussion" about how talking back is unacceptable, that there are consequences for talking back and then follow through if he does talk back.

Yeah, I hate it when the kids start talking back. I agree with Mack, your son seems to be challenging your authority, and test the limit. So, show him the limit.

There are two ways of preventing talking back: the hard way and the smart way. Try the smart way first. Don't ask him to do something he would obviously hate. Don't keep him from doing something he really like.
