Tantrums

How do you cope with a child's tantrum? I understand why they do it, but how do you deal with it? Should I talk with him immediately or wait? How long?

A tantrum is a way for the child to get attention, especially when he wants something. You can ignore his tantrum, just get valuable things out of his reach.

I used to just let them do it and get it out of their system, then leave them for a bit to cool off when they were done. Often, they'd come to me more calmly later to ask for something they wanted/needed, and if they didn't, I'd calmly approach them with a totally different topic than whatever started the tantrum, and it let them know that we were ok now.

We tell our daughter to go to her room and throw her tantrum in there. Thankfully she listens.
