Telling them no

What happens when you have to tell your kids no to something you know they would really like, just because times are tough? Right now times are tough for many people and it seems like our kids are being told these two little letters over and over again.

I found that kids can understand about it if you explain it to them. Like I tell them that we have this much money at present and these are going to pay for the bills, the food, the rent, etc. and we will only have this much left until the next payday. They can understand budgeting if you explain it to them.

I don't know how to handle this yet. When our child is born I have a feeling I am going to want to be too soft. But I know that isn't good for a child.

Fortunately the kids didn't hear it that often when times were better than now, so when they have to hear it more often now, they can understand that there is a good reason behind it.
