I want to look for a new job. In my current job, I have absolute job security, but it's killing me because I have to travel so much. I hate being away from home. Hate it, hate it, hate it. So, I want to send out some resumes and see what happens, but my wife is against doing that right now because of the state of the job market and the economy. She thinks I could end up getting a job with a company who might lay me off six months later. She thinks it's too risky for me to leave something so secure right now. What would you do?

I agree with your wife. In this current situation where someone can lose his job so easily as he loses his temper, you had better wait a bit before you decide to change your job.
