My wife took today and tomorrow off from work. It really is nice having her around, not just for her own company, but because it makes taking care of the kids easier.
I remember years ago my wife had to travel when a family member was sick to help take care of them. I had the kids alone for almost a month and swear I went a little more crazy as each day passed. We never realize how important our spouse is until we go without them.
I'm the one who is seldom home and I know it makes my wife nuts. On the rare occasions when I do have a day off, she gets so excited to have some help and a break.
