There are many problems that you, as the father, could possibly be faced with during pregnancy. Sometimes you may get so frustrated that you don’t know what to do. The best advice there is that you should keep a cool head and be supportive. That is your job after all. You are the mother’s support person and it’s your job to try to make this the best experience that you can for the both of you. Even when you do face problems, take a deep breath and work through it with lots of understanding and love.
So what are the problems you could possibly face during pregnancy? They are almost limitless, but listed here are some of the main things that you may be faced with.
1)Sexual Intimacy Issues
One of the problems that many men have to face is problems with sexual intimacy. Unfortunately, this is something that you will just have to be understanding about. Women go through a lot of body changes during this time. Weight gain can make a woman less comfortable about being intimate. The best thing you can do in this situation is to reassure her constantly about how beautiful you think she is. Also, don’t bring up the weight issue at all. Don’t talk about her eating habits or what she does eat.
Women can also worry about the effect on the baby when you have sex. No matter how much you tell her things will be fine, this is something that she will have to hear from her doctor. Make it a point to go to her doctor’s visits with her and ask the doctor about the effects on the baby from sexual intimacy. Doctors are more than prepared to answer all the questions that you may have about this.
2)Financial Problems
Many times, money can be a huge problem during pregnancy. There is so much going on and so much to prepare for that you may find yourself faced with financial problems you weren’t expecting. Prescription medicines, doctor visits, dietary needs, medical leave, and all the things you will need to prepare for the baby are going to cause a stress on the bank account. During these times, you and your partner need to sit down together and talk about your worries.
Take time to budget out the things that you need and stick to it. Many times these responsibilities will fall upon the man because the mother is focused on what is going on with her body. This can cause more stress on you than you feel like dealing with. Take time to breath and maybe talk to a friend or someone who has been through this before. This can many times help you solve the problems at hand. You can also seek advice from an accountant or someone else who makes a living managing other peoples money.
3)Relationship Problems
The stress of a baby on the way, the financial issues, the sexual issues, stress at work, and everything else going on can lead to you and your partner having relationship problems. Sometimes these problems can come out of no where and can be cause by hormones that the woman is dealing with. There are several ways that you can deal with these problems as long as you both have the common goal of starting this family together.
You can talk to each other about your feelings and concerns. This is a great place to start. If you aren’t getting anywhere then you may want to seek the help of a professional counselor that specializes in dealing with couples who are or are about to become parents. You can also take some time for just the two of you away from all your daily stresses. Even though the stress will come back once you get home, for a couple days you can let it all go and just enjoy eachother.
