There are many ways as a father to bond with your son. You don’t have to spend a ton of money or go out of your way to impress your child. It is, after all, sometimes the smallest experiences that count the most in a child’s life.
Road trips can be a lot of fun and a great father son bonding experience. If you are a lover of history and want to pass that onto your children, a car trip is a great way to do it. Take out the dvd player and gaming system and brush up on your facts. By giving them cool information on whatever landmark you are driving by or town you are driving through it will be a lot of fun for them and stimulate their learning. When they get older, they will look back fondly at all of the times that you droned on and on about historical facts along the way to your destinations. They will pass this onto their own children eventually.
Tinkering around your house can give you private time with your son and make you look manly at the same time. As cliche as it sounds, men have long been considered providers and fixers of whatever goes wrong around the house. All that you need is something broken and a roll of duct tape and you will be ready to fix whatever is broken!
On the opposite end of the fix it spectrum, many men enjoy building and constructing new things around the house. This is a great activity that you can partake of with your son. It does not have to be a major undertaking if you do not want to drag out the power tools and electric saw. You can build something with a set of lego or duplo blocks. If you are more inclined to actually build something with wood and nails, try a backyard project.
Many men grew up with their father’s teaching them how to repair and maintain their own cars. It is great way to spend time with your child and teach them a valuable tool that will benefit them later in life. My father taught me how to change a tire, change my own oil and detect what noise was coming from where before I was old enough to even drive. This has saved me a lot of money over the years in car repair and I cherish those memories of Sundays in the garage with him.
Sporting events are a classic father son experience. Whether it be playing catch in the backyard or going to a baseball game during the summer, sporting events are among the greatest and most fun ways to bond as a family. Major league baseball or NFL events can be costly but it doesn’t have to be a pro game. Check out local sports in your area. High school football during the fall is inexpensive and enjoyable to watch. It will instill team spirit in your child. Fishing is also a great outdoor sport.
