Heating pads for pain

I routinely use a heating pad for lower back pain and I find that I get relief when I am on the thing, but within 10 minutes of turning it off the pain returns. Does anyone here ever get a couple hours (or more) of relief from heating pads? Am I the only one like this?

Since I've been suffering with back issues recently, I can tell you that it depends on what the pain is caused from. Several Doctors told me recently that ice is better. One Doctor advised alternating ice and heat. Motrin is the best for pain relief and to reduce inflammation. Feel better.

I bought a reuseable ice pack from CVS. They work a lot better and don't take up much room in the freezer. Have you tried those Thermacare heat wraps? They stay on for 8 hours at a time, sounds like what you need.
