My job takes me abroad quite often and I feel sometimes that I'm missing great chunks of my daughters' childhoods, but what options do I have when this is all I have known since I was 16?
It sounds like it's something you just have to put up with mate. At least you are working hard and providing for your family. Just make the most of the days off that you have and make the time that you do have with them quality time.
If you are happy doing what you do then, as danno said, make the most of your family time. These days there are loads of ways to stay in touch, wherever you are in the world.
