Just Our Family

The wife and kids and I always do something special for the holidays. The day itself is filled with going to our parents for the traditional Thanksgiving dinner - hers for the noon meal and mine for leftovers for supper and switching the next year. We choose another day to do something special with the kids and ourselves. That way, not only do they get to go to grandparents, but we're developing a tradition of family time, too. Does anyone else do that?

We have no family nearby so it's always just the three of us. We have some traditional holiday outings that we take together, but then we also have the holiday itself for just our little family.

The morning of Christmas is always just us - select presents get opened while everyone is still in PJ's and bathrobes, and then we enjoy breakfast together before preparing for a day of family visits. I love those mornings.
