My House, My Rules

We have a 18 year old grandson who has come to live with us because he can't get along with our son who is his father. Although we enjoy his company, he is of the opinion that he doesn't have any rules since he is 18. I've told him it's my house and he has to follow my rules. If he doesn't like that he can always go back to his father's house or rent a place. I'm expecting him to help with the household chores, let me know where he is and come home at a reasonable time. Am I being too harsh here?

Nope your notes say it all, to me it does not matter who enters my home. If you can not follow the rules do not let the door hit you on the backside (that's how I was raised).

I agree completely! This is your home and you are providing him with a place to stay. He needs to abide by your rules, or hit the road. You aren't obligated to let him live with you at all and you certainly aren't obligated to let him run over you.
