Rip Boards and Skateboards

I wondered what you guys thought about getting the kids a rip board or a skateboard? I know there are a lot of problems with them as far as injuries are concerned, but I would insist they use mouth guards and helmets as well as elbow and knee protectors. Is anyone else hesitant to get them? Give me some opinions so I can make up my mind.

It would depend on how old the kids were. With some safety gear, though, I could see a skateboard around age 7 or so, I guess. I don't know what a rip board is.

They are eventually going to want something dangerous, whether or not it's a rip board, a skateboard, a motorcycle or a little sports car. We had a tiny little sports car once, but we sold that thing before the first one got his learner's permit. We knew better than to even have temptation in the garage.
