Some of each?

When shopping for your immediate family for Christmas, do you get them "necessities" or something that is a luxury or just for enjoyment? Some of each?

It depends, I guess. I would never get a family member something like socks. I did have an aunt that got us all socks and underwear every year. I won't inflict that on anybody else unless they ask for it.

I try to do some of both, particularly for my wife who won't ever buy anything for herself. I love getting gift cards myself, and then you have a choice of what to spend it on. :)

I'm never good when it comes to clothes and stuff like that. I do buy a shirt or two for the wife, but most of it is stuff she may not be buying for herself.

For my parents and brothers, it is a bit different. Typically gift cards, or something unique if I can find something they may not have. Anymore though everyone just asks for gc's.

I've had bad luck with the wifes side, and she and I have both agreed, gc's for them, not even going to try anymore.
