Step Dads and Relationship Failure

We're not having problems-just a thought that occurred to me. What happens if you split up with someone, having got close to the step kids? Do you miss them? Is there ever a chance to see them occasionally-I know you aren't biological but would you ask to visit them occasionally?

Ah, tough one. Of course, if you're together a while you'll get attached to the kids, come to love them. When you split you don't have any rights to visit or see them again.

You can ask that, for the sake of the kids she let you see them occasionally, help them cope? If she argues that it's better to just make it a swift break, then you don't have any leg to stand on I'm afraid.
