I can understand why you say that, but forcing him into situations he is uncomfortable with is not the answer, believe me. Is he an only child? If he is then you need to provide opportunities for him to meet new people/kids in a safe way.

The first time round we agonised for weeks, maybe months over a name! My wife bought a book, everyone chipped in suggestions and ideas and the whole thing was quite a time consumer. When you get to #4 there's no time for that and we take turns now!

It's a good idea to have a little burial ceremony for smaller pets. With a dog maybe you could have a memorial service? Whatever you do it will be tough, but letting the kids grieve will help them a lot.

We have twins who are eight years old and a boy who is four. The girls are thrilled to have a new baby brother, but the youngest is having a hard time. His position has been taken over, which I can understand will make him a little grumpy. How did you deal with this kind of situation?

The charitable donation is good, but I do feel uncomfortable with the family receiving cash for this. There's no doubt that the newspaper people were wrong, but still - it seems off somehow.

If you have the space then I would say an adjoining room is the best option, especially for light sleepers. But I don't think it creates any long term sleeping problems if you have a very new baby in your own bedroom.
