    Haunted Houses and age

I think it depends on the personalities of your kids. If the kids are able to watch scary movies without having nightmares, they could probably handle a haunted house. If they are jumpy and get freaked out easily, they aren't ready.

    Jobs/Gates movie

There was a TV movie years ago called Pirates of Silicon Valley. Is that what you're thinking of? Or did they make another one about the two of them?

    Who does the gift shopping?

With Christmas coming, I'm curious who does the shopping in your house for holidays and special occasions? I think I'm going to have to have a talk with my wife about this. She used to include me in all aspects of choosing presents for our daughter, but in the past year or so she's only asked my...

    Q tips

My wife got on my case yesterday about using Q tips to clean my ears. She said they actually push ear wax deeper into your ear and can cause an ear infection. Is that true? What do you guys do to clean your ears?

Reading more and watching less television

My daughter hates television, but that's probably because we never have it on. On the rare occasion we do turn it on, she just looks at it like it's from another planet :D She can't read yet, but she LOVES books and she'll sit for hours looking at her books and turning the pages. I hope this...

Pets being part of the family

Our pets are a big part of the family and they are always with us. They don't sleep with my daughter because she sleeps with her door closed and they don't like feeling trapped, but I would certainly allow it if she ever starts sleeping with the door open.

    Sharing top secret recipes

I've been working on writing my own recipes for marinades, rubs, barbecue sauces, etc and then I try them out on my friends. The problem is I want to keep the successful ones top secret, but people always ask for the recipe. What do you do when someone asks for a recipe that you just don't want...

    Troy Davis execution

I'm just curious where everyone stands on Troy Davis being executed in Georgia this evening. I normally support the death penalty in extreme cases, but this man's guilt seems to be questionable. Here is one of the many articles I've read about him today...

    Mouse/rat poison

I need to get some rodent poison and I'm looking for brand suggestions. I want to spread it under my house and I'd like for the little varmints to eat it and go elsewhere to die. I'm not sure if they make something like that, but if anyone knows of a good one, please let me know.

    Younger siblings getting married

That's kind of an old fashioned mindset, isn't it? The older sister needs to relax and realize she'll find her Mr. Right when it is meant to happen. Who knows? Maybe he'll be at the wedding :)

    Baby Costs?

It really just depends on the variables. We bottle fed so that was pretty costly. It also depends on whether you buy strictly necessities or if you're buying a new "irresistible" outfit every week. Babies really don't need much other than food, basic clothing, warmth, and love. I think it gets...

    Same style as your parents?

Not on my life. My mother was a raging you-know-what and I vowed a long time ago to break the cycle. My dad is a great guy, but he was way, way too indulgent of me. Basically, there was no balance. And neither of them ever saw eye to eye, which I think is very important. I am a whole new breed...

    A father/daughter joke

A friend told me this joke the other day and I had to share: A toddler was giving her daddy a tea party. She brought him a little cup of "tea," which was just water of course. After several cups of tea, her mom came home. Dad told mom to wait in the living room to watch his little Princess...

    Road trips and circulation

Sitting for long periods of time is not good for circulation, so what is your general rule of thumb on road trips for stopping and stretching? In other words, how often do you stop and how long do you wait before getting back on the road? I have to drive 1,600 miles this weekend and I'm...

Netflix Adds A New Restriction: Limits Customers To One Stream At A Time

We don't use Netflix, but we were thinking about signing up. Now I'm not so sure. It seems like they had a really good thing going - I wonder why they're getting so greedy.

    Walmart brings back layaway

Hey, that's great news! My wife was complaining last year that Walmart didn't have layaway, so she'll be happy to hear this. Something tells me that Christmas shopping will begin as soon as the program starts on October 17th :)

    Huge increase in working poor

I try to stay positive, but it's really hard to when you see what is happening here and around the world. At this point, I have an attitude that is like if it gets better, great, but I'm not banking on it.

    Digital dishwasher repair

We have one of those dishwashers that has the push buttons and the buttons stopped working over the weekend. Well, not all of them stopped working...just the start button. I'm thinking it has to be a simple connection issue, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to access the panel. Has...

    Eggplant

Eggplant is not my first choice of vegetable, but a guy at work gave me a whole bunch of it. Free food is free food, so I need to figure out something to do with it and make it taste really good. Any suggestions?

    Random couple

I hear about these kinds of situations causing problems all the time. My wife's aunt is actually going through a divorce because of this very problem. The couple needs to communicate and agree on a course of action when dealing with the kids.
