    Rewards or punishments.

Since our kids were little we've tried to reward the good behavior more than punish the bad behavior. However when we do this with our youngest he takes it almost as a, well I was good, now I can do something I'm not supposed to pass. We are starting to have to punish him because he's just not...

    My own room

Like stayathomepaul, I tend to hide in the garage. I'll work on the car, or just sit at my bench and tie some fishing lures. If things get real crazy, sometimes I'll hitch up the boat and go fishing for a while. Sitting on the water always seems to clear my head.

    Finding a babysitter.

We're lucky in that department as well. We have a couple of teenage nieces that are always ready to make a few dollars, and then my wife's parents are always willing to watch the kids if we have someplace we need to be.

    No more caffeine

I think I read somewhere that caffiene can affect your bones and calcium or something. I don't think I paid too much attention to the article because I still have my 2 cups of coffee in the morning (and a soda with lunch). I think this is going to have to go under things I wish to remain...

    Favorite museums.

My wife is from Chicago, and since we aren't that far away, when the weather starts to get cooler we head there to visit some of their museums. I think my favorite is The Museum of Science and Industry. There is something there for everyone. We are planning a trip to go to the Planetarium...

    Electronis in their room.

My wife is pretty set on not letting the kids have anything like a computer or television in their room. We are fortunate that we have extra space including an office/study room, where we keep a computer for the kids to use. Otherwise it's too hard to keep an eye on what they are doing.

    First Blood

I think you might be talking about the HBO series True Blood. I caught a few episode of it, but we canceled our movie channels to save a little money. What I saw was fine, but right now I'm a bit burnt out on vampire stories.

    "You don't remember me...do you?"

I had the worst case of brain freeze today. I was at a restaurant with a co-worker and a man came up to our table and was very friendly, greeting me, asking me how my family was...and I was at a loss. He looked familiar, but I couldn't think of his name, or from where I knew him. I...

Sleep apnea and a CPAP machine.

That's exactly my experience. I snored for years and finally talked to my doctor about it and went through one of those studies. I didn't realize just how little good sleep I was getting until I used the CPAP. It makes such a huge difference.

    Bowling

I think the first time I took them they were 3 or 4. The bowling alley had bumpers they put down for the little ones to protect them from gutter balls. Between that and the sodas and nachos, they had a great time.

    Opting out of the holidays.

I was in that kind of mood last year. Money was tight and the thought of spending put me in a bad mood. My wife started getting me out and doing seasonal stuff that didn't cost alot of money and the kids smiles started getting me back in the spirit.

    Coaching your kid's sports team.

Does anyone here coach their kid's sports team? I have some good memories of my dad helping out my little league team. But things have gotten alot more competetive and parents are more demanding. Do you or would you coach your kids team?

    Tightening the budget.

One thing we started doing last year when we bought our stand alone freezer, we stiock up when there are good sales. Now we have been doing this with other non-perishables as well. Plus my wife is getting really good at the coupon clipping.

    Paid vacation

I think it depends on if your kids are in school or not, and whether or not you'd be comfortable taking them out of school to go somewhere. Since it is a slow time for travel(except the week of Thanksgiving), you might be able to get some really good deals.

    too old

I don't think my wife would be comfortable with this at 4 years old, boy or girl. Another thing, I would probably get scolded for letting our little one interrupt her "relaxing" bath to begin with.

    Tired

I agree, getting him on a schedule will help. Also, things like not letting him take a nap too late in the afternoon. Maybe a good dose of physical play, followed by a warm bath before bedtime. Good luck.

    The grandparents are too easy...

I guess part of the problem is I really don't have the frame of reference of the grandparent rule as my grandparents had all passed when I was very young. While I don't have and issue with them giving the kids stuff, I still want my children to respect them and listen. I'm afraid if they cave...

    Pumpkin carving.

We haven't done this for a few years, but my wife is really excited about Halloween this year and has already started buying assorted decorations and such. Do you carve pumpkins every year? Do you let the kids help? Do you try the fancy designs, or just stick to the basic triangle eyes and...

    My GOSH Kids are Loud!

You aren't kidding about them being loud. My son's latest thing is yelling out the window when the neighborhood kids are playing outside. All of a sudden he just lets out a scream, gets me everytime.

Not Having A Good Day Today

My wife and I try and recognize when the other is losing it and head it off before we blow up a simple situation. Usually, a morning of fishing will help me come back to myself.
